Documentation and Research Program
Documentation & Research Program of KWAT began in 2003 to research and document the human rights violations experienced by our compatriots in Kachin State and northern Shan State. We also research human trafficking, women and health, women and education, domestic violence, and sexual violence inside Burma. By collecting data through personal interviews, KWAT is able to understand the communities’ feelings and attitudes toward these violations.
We also seek to preserve and maintain Kachin culture and history through our research and documentation activity, and we provide training in the methodology to KWAT interns on our Internship Program.
Objectives
- To collect data on realities of human rights violations in Kachin State and Northern Shan State
- To get comprehensive documentation of human rights violations to use for international advocacy
- To raise awareness of the lack of human rights in these regions
- To preserve Kachin culture and traditions
- To research the historical background of Kachin Revolution
- To upload the relevant data into Martus, a software designed for human rights watch
