Political Empowerment Program
The Political Empowerment Program has been conducting training for youth and women in Kachin State and Northern Shan State for nearly ten years, educating future leaders on human rights, women rights, democracy, federalism, constitution, peace and conflict resolution, good governance, gender, election and voting rights Politics, Rule of Law, Social Accountability and Responsibility Governance and any other related topics as required.
Program Aims
- To build a peaceful society by building knowledge about political issues in Kachin communities
- To promote women’s rights and women’s participation in decision making bodies
Project Objectives
- To build knowledge about democracy, federalism, the constitution and democratic elections among communities.
- To raise the level of political awareness in the wider community and increase interest in politics to create a strong democratic society.
- To increase knowledge about Human Rights, Women’s Rights including UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and CEDAW, and politics including democracy and federalism among adult and young women.
- To provide a platform for Kachin youth to exchange knowledge with one another and to increase interest in politics among young people.
