February 1st, 2021
After several weeks of tension between the elected government led by National League for Democracy and the Burma Army, security forces began detaining key leaders of the government including President Win Myint and State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi. In the early hours of Feb 1st, 2021, military personals began occupying government buildings, cutting off telecommunication, and arresting elected members of parliament. Now, the
military’s media has announced the military-appointed Vice-President Myint Swe as the new interim President of Burma as prescribed by the undemocratic 2008 constitution.
1) We call upon the United Nations Security Council to convene an emergency meeting to discuss matters relating to dispatching security forces to maintain peace and stability in the region.

3) We request the People’s Republic of China and the United States to help dismantle and restructure the Burmese Army so that it is reflective of the Union’s ethnic diversity, democratic norms, and federal principles.
4) We urge all the ethnic armed organizations to facilitate peace and stability in their respective regions and safeguard the welfare of all citizens.
5) We demand that Min Aung Hlaing immediately releases all political leaders detained unlawfully before the nation pays heavy price for his usurpation.
6) We urge the international community to put pressure on Burma Army to allow the drawing up and implementation of a new constitution which grants ethnic equality without discrimination and guarantees the right to self-determination.
